Veteran's Day 2010: The Beginning

Most of us know someone that has served in a war, whether it be World War II or the current war our troops are fighting in Afghanistan. Despite this fact, many of our veterans go unrecognized and some are even bullied into silence by their peers who do not believe in war. Regardless of opinions of war, the truth is that wars have been fought and the brave people that served and continue to serve in them do not deserve to be muted. Everyone has a story to tell and through this blog and my photography project "Faces of Our Veterans," I will help tell the stories of the United State's brave soldiers. I will do this by meeting with veterans individually, photographing them, and asking them questions about why the joined the armed services, and how their experiences have changed their lives. I will not pressure any of my interviewees into talking about subjects they do not wish to share, for that is not the purpose of my project. I simply want to help veterans be seen as people deserving of a listening ear. Everyone's story is important, and it's time for the stories of our veterans to be heard.
